In March 2016 I started creating small designs for bowls and pots, thinking about form and surface pattern. These small drawings were a very therapeutic act and led to the creation of a pottery studio including wheel and kiln for me to start developing the designs into clay. I began throwing earthenware and porcelain ceramic vessels and have taught myself through an exploration of materials and process. The 1000 Vessel Project has developed as a way of pushing my practice, dedicating the time needed to create forms and experiment with translating my landscape motifs and pattern onto the surface of the vessel. To date I have created 876 vessels which are a joyous exploration of creativity, clay and surface design. See examples below or follow my progress on Instagram @sarahcannellartist
